DOAG Conference 2004 - day 1
In the morning I heard 3 sessions all including a live demo of the features mentioned in the
session. I prefer this kind of sessions because they give me the feeling of being near to the 'real thing'. Furthermore the guys doing a live demo in front of a hundred developers do have my full respect...
I must say I was really impressed to see that Oracle really moves forward with their HTML DB. They showed some features of the upcoming version 1.6, not bad...
2 sessions in the afternoon were not very interesting, but you never know in advance.
In the after hour they launched the new DOAG Community portal based on Oracle Collaboration Suite. I would expect that you can do the same with some Open Source tools in a lean way. Anyway, I had some really interesting discussions with some other developers/DBAs. We talked about commonly known bugs/issues but also about a more interesting area: The import of good communication between those 2 (completly different) worlds.

DOAG Conference 2004 - DOAG SIG day
Hey, it's DOAG time again, 3 days in Mannheim packed with hopefully interesting sessions.
The first day is traditionally dedicated to the Special Interest Groups (SIG). I decided to join the Data Warehouse group today - and I didn't regret it. It was a good mix of sessions about user experiences using Oracle DWH and OLAP technologies, technical sessions from Oracle representatives and a non technical session about market trends in that area.
After that the general meeting of the DOAG e.V. took place. One of the discussions was about 'Do we really need a 1254 pages conference book?' My clear vote: No.
